Bruce Springsteen’s concert Sunday night – the first of two at the TD Banknorth Garden – attracted quite a few notables. Both NBC anchor Brian Williams and Peter Wolf were spotted backstage. Amid the throngs of fans were congressman Patrick Kennedy, and Channel 5 newsgal Susan Wornick, who was with a group of friends. After Sunday night’s concert, E Street Band-mate Steven Van Zandt took a group of 10 for a late-night nosh at Davio’s in Park Square.

In his 32nd year playing rock ’n’ roll, Phil Lesh has found the fountain of youth. It wasn’t in some myth-shrouded swamp, but next to him on stage. Twenty-six-year-old Jackie Greene, a prepubescent-looking singer/guitarist with an amazingly soulful voice, took MVP honors during a spirited performance (one of two nights) of Lesh’s latest incarnation of his ever-evolving band at the Orpheum Theatre last night (Tuesday 9th October, 2007).

Between shows this week in Worcester and Manchester, N.H., Elvis Costello slipped into Boston, dining at Lala Rokh on Beacon Hill with old pal Peter Wolf. (Costello is touring with Bob Dylan.)

Wolf was out and about even more than usual this week. Tuesday, the former J. Geils singer emceed a 25th anniversary party for Leo’s Place, the landmark Harvard Square diner that’s served everyone from Little Steven to our boy Ben Affleck. Owners Richie and Raffi Bezjian were feted by a band led by Duke Levine and a crowd that included Tom Magliozzi of “Car Talk.”

After his set at the Bank of America Pavilion the other night, Merle Haggard hooked up backstage with Peter Wolf to record a tune for the former J. Geils frontman’s new disc. (The song, “It’s Too Late for Me,” was co-written by Will Jennings, who co-penned “Tears in Heaven.”) We’re told Wolf’s record, due out next year, will also feature duets with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
