Billboard.com: Fight Over ‘J. Geils’ Name Heats Up: Band Said ‘Let’s Replace Him’

Everyone’s blood may be running a bit cold at the moment, but four members of the J. Geils Band have every intention of touring this year despite a lawsuit by guitarist John “J.” Geils claiming they can’t use the group name.

Current band manager John Baruck tells Billboard that the group — which includes founding members Peter Wolf, Seth Justman, Magic Dick Salwitz and Danny Klein — “is going out. It’s the J. Geils Band playing the J. Geils hits with Peter Wolf out there in front dancing. This is all clear-cut. We’re not stopping because of John Geils’ allegations.”

I have to say I agree with J. Geils that he is the founding member of the group way back in 1967,sorry to say for the rest of the guys, when they called themselves The J. Geils Blues Band. They should simply change the name and remain friends.I got a name for You’all, The Peter Wolf rhythm & blues revival !!!

The last “J GEILS BAND” show that I EVER EVER EVER saw was on February 20, 1982 at Madison Square Garden in NYC! Sat front row and gave Mr peter Wold my Mother’s personal copy of Jackie Wilson’s album…”Baby workout”. I never ever ever saw another show that had Mr Stephen Jo Bladd pounding out the backbeat on skins anymore—EVER! ( Mr Bladd was one helluva showman by the way! One helluva one!! incomparable!—interacted with the crowd even behind a drum riser) again! To me….”THE J GEILS BAND” died right then and there! John Geils IN or John Geils OUT, the J Geils Band as it once existed, has NEVER existed since before 1982!!!!!!!!!!! PERIOD! I would rather live with the memories of the REAL DEAL, than a half baked version of what once was, especially being reduced to only 4 out of the original 6!
Give it up boys! Its DONE and put a proverbial FORK IN IT ALREADY!
    Peace—–over and out.

I have a great way to end this feud once and for all and in a funny way.First off after their tour when the band members go to court [ there’s J.Geils J. Listen up!,In a white wig on the podium and his gavel. The boy’s go into the Boston court room and are NERVOUS. J. Play’s THE FUNKY JUDGE on a couple of kariokie speakers and starts to crack-up.The rest of the guys realize it was just a joke and sentences them to 14 yrs.!!! Boy do I have an imagination!!!
