It looks as if the relationship between guitarist J. Geils and the band that bears his name is broken beyond repair.

Ten days after the J. Geils Band announced plans to tour without John Geils Jr. — better known to fans as J. — an attorney representing the guitarist has filed a lawsuit accusing his bandmates, Peter Wolf, Seth Justman, Magic Dick, and Danny Klein, of trademark infringement and deceptive business practices.

Who’s been collecting all the cash for all the songs used on t.v. commercials, and movies. Something is fishy. Change it to J.Giels Band.

Sad! I will see them at the best venue on the tour in Buffalo at the Erie Canal Harbor (Labatt Blue, cheap hotels, nice view) but so much for following the tour/

I want their beautiful last concert! I was born at 1967, so the life of this band is like mine. They once had departed at 1983 and united at 1999 without original drummer. But many fans had applause on their come back and have appreciated new drummer’s attribution. Until 2011′s concert, the band successfully performed with other supporting musicians. But in this time, something goes wrong and insane, so I’m insane, insane again!! While recovering my mental wreckage, I am hoping and wishing their last performance with Steve. For only one song, they have to be united and help one another !!!

Maybe if they get into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame.

This “Band” has had problems with money since day one. Either making it and/or managing it. It’s the same human weakness of greed that is raising it’s ugly head, one last and FINAL time I might add, as regards this group of musical “artists” collectively called the “J Geils Band”. Forces ( lawyers, advisors, etc..) from outside the performing 6 artists onstage, destroyed this once mighty entity back in late 1982, and it appears that “love of money”(Greed) and advice arising from a “legal mindset”( rather than the HEART!) will put a final nail in this coffin once and for good. The True J Geils Band has never truly reunited on stage in a public venue—not once. Why ever Stephen Jo Bladd decided to never perform publicly on stage with this band ever again( since 1982!) has been raising a red flag in this Fan’s mind since way back then?? So why would this collection of musical artists ( “the J Geils Band”) be any different in the end anyway? Its always been about the money, the “hatchet” has never really been buried( Bladd’s absence speaks volumes-always has always will) since 1982, and money/greed/outside influenced non HEART- legal advice will put this to bed AGAIN–this time once and for-all-period. If anyone wants the real down and dirty truth—my advice—Go interview Mr Stephen Jo Bladd( the real driving force behind the REAL 6 member J Geils Band!)–The truth lies somewhere there—in the real HEART of the J Geils band. The real 6 member band—played from the HEART! Their extremely loyal Fans–come to their shows–from the HEART! But ever since 1982–success/money/greedy legal outside consul—caused them to FORGET, and take for granted their real reason for anything—————Their Fans! RIP Gentlemen.

I just read the complaint, and it’s literally a self-serving history revision– this is a statement from the Complaint:

    J. Geils was beside himself. Despite the fact that Peter Wolf and Seth Justman would have been nowhere without J. Geils, they were now seeking to take his entire life away.
I may be opening up for criticism here, but IMHO: J was/is a good, solid guitar player– though I have seen him relying on Duke Levine to carry a lot of the live playing over the last few years. Never heard him sing, and am not sure about any of the band’s songs he has written– the ones I know of are all Peter/Seth. If the band had a different name, it would literally be swapped guitar player– Again, my opinion. Sad to see it come to this– been going to see them since the early 80s (saw REM open for them in New Haven), and was at the first Reunion show at the Paradise in Boston 1999— Let’s hope they push on and get out there with Duke and rip it up.
